Just Another One

Too much safety
life is too censored
I need to take risks
I need to break free
from all these standards
that threaten to box me in
and pull me down every day
until I’m little more
than a face in the crowd
a name on a list
a line in a song

My whole life
I’ve always known
I was different
That there was
something about me
that set me apart
I was told it was bad
so I went off to conform
to all these stupid rules
that society has set for us
It never felt right

Now I know the truth
I am different
I’m not like them
but it’s okay
It’s a good thing
It’s accepted
because I wasn’t born
to be a copy, just another one
