They Say

They say love is a splendid thing.
But love lingers and stings.
They say love will light the way for us,
but love dims and darkens with every touch.
They say love will save us,
but, rather, love depraves us.
Love is but a single solitary word.
Like many ideas, fleeting and absolutely absurd.
Love: the dangerous demon
that drags many to their death.
Even if with love we are acquainted,
our lives still remain rightly tainted.
They say love is surely worth the struggle,
But it will leave us dead, deep within the rubble.
