Narcissus

You're gonna leave me again, just like always.
And, god, does it hurt when you're gone.
I'm just sitting here, counting the days
Until you cut me out of your life again.
I can't let go of what never was,
Because I'm always Echo chasing Narcissus.

Why, tell me, why do you let it linger?
Leave me hanging by a thread -
Until you snap it, prick me with a stinger.
I don't know why I'm always a mess.
I can't let go of what never was,
Because I'm always Echo chasing Narcissus.

Your doe eyes squinting, your face is so flawed.
All of my letters are handwritten,
Addressed only to you, abroad.
I'm watching you leave me again, but
I can't let go of what never was,
Because I'm always Echo chasing Narcissus.

Done for poetry class. We had to have an 18-line love poem, three verses, where the last two lines of each were a refrain and the first and third lines of each verse rhymed.
