Extravagant Simplicity at Its Best

I've always wondered what it was like
To be one with the rest.
To clamor for the spotlight
And try to be the best.

There's nothing more in the painting
Than just a narrow streak
The vagueness of pretention
Has left acceptance bleak.

The concept of equality
Has been blurred out by ostentation
And for what, I wonder, fellow friends?
Why, of course. To attract attention.

Go ahead, humor me.
I could do with a sarcastic laugh.
The line's moving,
and the spotlight will make you last.

Keep on pretending, keep on laughing
Don't ever call it deceit.
Lying to yourself will get you nowhere but there
And don't ever call it defeat.
