Tribute to Love

Love played a song for me
With haunting lyrics in a foreign language
That lifted my soul by the throat
And forced me to watch
As he raped me of all that was “me”
Such that he is

Love played on a cello made of my tendons
The puppeteer moved my arms
And broke my will
As he severed the strings
Connecting me with Heaven
It is as it should be

Love kissed all parts of me
And violated what should have been mine
As he twisted my words and made them whole

Love denied that which was rightfully mine
Placing it in front of me
Only to take it away

Love desecrated what had just begun to bloom
The funeral pyres our only comfort
In a time I’d wanted to forget
But forced to remember

Forced to remember
What Love had deserted
With dead eyes and pallid hands
What Love had given unto me

Ashen remains pervade the air I breathe
Remnants of his beauty
