Whimper

I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by madness,
maggots ravaging their brains from the inside.
Who stood atop cliffs for hours, and who ate so little,
that a breeze could blow them over the edge.
Some jumped and some..
Some staggered away, terrified, from that cliff
Only to return, again and again, until death did them part.
And death always did them part, death of the body, or of the mind.
When so caught up in the trivial they forgot themselves,
Or when they forgot the trivial, killed themselves.
And those of us who survived?
Well we walked on covered in our scars,
with such sorrowful eyes that were all cried out.
But we never forgot,
The edge of that cliff.
