End to Endless Nights

Endless nights seem so long,
Each making you not quite as strong
As you pass through the dark,
You see forgotten souls,
Joining them was never one of your goals.
Each with a black heart,
And a handful of regrets you can relate to.

You flee to your memories,
The ones that once made you laugh and have hope.
The ones you’ve managed to keep,
Through a life of torture and fear,
And you pray they can save you again.
But all the same you know what’s waiting,
By the familiar dark thoughts pushing their way back into your mind.

The same mind controlling the knife poised over your wrist.
Would anyone notice if you were to leave?
The crimson sorrow you’ve felt for so long makes its way out,
Taking with it your last breath
You look up hoping to see a welcoming face,
But all you see is a forgotten soul,
Waiting for you.

But you realize its only your pale face reflecting in the mirror,
The mirror you watched to see if anyone as coming as you committed the deed.
You can’t close your eyes, you can’t move a muscle.
The ones conveying the anguish you’ve managed to endure,
All these years in silence.
And at long last your spirit dies.
You are no longer here to suffer.
