The Way It Happened

It started off innocent and sweet,
Two people who hardly ever meet,
One a boy,
The other a girl,
Unsuspecting of what the world had in store.
Soon passion began to flourish,
The emotions began to bond
And without a doubt
They somehow knew.
The boy, however, careless and headstrong,
Fell head first for the girl,
But she remained,
Unsure.
He called to her,
Everyday
Hoping in some meaningless effort
To whisk her away.
But she did not budge.
He tried his hardest,
With all of his might,
But her resistance
He was unable to fight.
So there she stood,
Unsure of the decision,
To stay where she was,
Or to meet the boy there.
He, however, knew what was to come.
He gave her a key.
She did not know what for.
He told her it was to a door,
The door to his heart.
So that when she was willing to start,
She could come right in.
She stopped,
And stared at him,
Then the key
And threw it back,
And tears crept into her eyes.
"I cannot take this!
Dont you see?
Do not declare your love for me.
We hardly know the other,
So please turn away and go."
He stood there,
Speechless,
His heart sunk within.
He took the key,
Took one look,
Took a breath and walked away.
It started off, nice and sweet.
They would talk to each other and wish to meet.
But now,
Silence.
That is all that is left.
But, there she still stands.
Wondering whether to follow.
