Girl in the Mirror

Tears make their familiar trail
Down her blotchy red cheeks
But none of them carry out her pain
And ease the pressure on her heart.

The pain is there, oh it’s there
Slashing, clawing at her fragile heart
And the look in her eyes would kill anyone
Who happened to look close enough.

She holds herself tight
And attempts a futile smile
Convincing herself that she’s alright
But her heart is no fool

After all, the beating organ is bleeding
From the gaping wound her hopes have made
And I stand there watching her hopelessly
Wanting to reach out, to kill the pain

But as I do reach out to her
My hand touches the smooth surface of glass
And it’s then that I realize
I was looking at my own reflection
