Cracks

The soft white flakes fell from the heavens,
dusting the ground in pure beauty.
The atmosphere changed,
from dull to happiness,
leaving a trail of bitterness.

Weeks went by,
happiness changed to eagerness,
eagerness changed to boredom,
and borden changed to misery.

The little white flakes frozen to thick ice,
dangerous invisible ice.
I carefully wandered across the paving,
trying hard not to fall.

But alas,
my hopes were smashed,
I lay on the floor,
cheek against the frozen water.
Leaking a tear I moved,
hoping to learn this time.

I saw the first sings,
weeks before they appeared,
the cracks began to form,
bringing me to tears.
I was ready for this to end.

And now?
Our relationship is over,
the ice has cleared,
life couldn't be better.
