Darkness

In the darkness you can hide,
From all judgmental eyes.
You don't have to fear,
When they can't see you.
In the dark, we're all the same.
You can't see my shame.
Shame that comes because I'm not you,
The one who prefers the light;
Just because people can see you alright.
I pretend not to care,
That I'm me, and I'm there.
When really I'm only me,
When no one is there to see.
