Darkness and His Friends

Darkness begins to sweep the old town
Old men pray as the Sun goes down
Children know not who’s to blame
As they head for the windows, like moths to a flame.
The Wind howls with so much joy and glee,
As the Sun disappears into the blackened sea.
The trees cower and the birds seek land,
For even they know what’s at hand.
Darkness swallows everything that’s around,
Not giving anything a chance to make a sound.
The Clouds weep from behind prison bars,
They are being forced by Darkness to hide the stars.
Lightening laughs, “finally we have won!”
He strikes the Earth and asks, “Now where’s your sun?”
Then Darkness makes sure there is not a single light,
“Let’s not let those ruin our night.”
Darkness and his friends destroy everything they find
They scare away all that is good and kind.
But then, out from the sea, a small glow!
The Wind and Lightening scream, “No!
You will not destroy our fun,
For you are nothing, you silly Sun!”
All of them attack, as the Sun raises more,
And all the people watch, rising from the floor.
The Clouds brighten; they no longer have tears,
Their Sun has come to wipe away their fears!
The Wind howls, as they try to attack,
But the happy clouds pull Lightening back.
Lightening is locked away, while the Clouds have the keys,
And the Sun tames Wind into nothing but a light breeze.
“You may have won now, but just you wait!”
Darkness spits out as he dissolves, taking with him his hate.
The people smile and stand up, brave and tall,
The Sun, once again, has saved them all!
Every person is happy and proud,
“We love our Sun!” they sing out loud.
