Roses to the Dead

He cleans the dead upon their call
The corpse he dresses like a doll.
They hold the box above the ground.
(The dirt is piled in a mound.)
They prayed in vain, did not care
About the person's welfare.
Say their words, read the Bible,
Talk of the dead when a little child.
They pray in vain, do not care
About the person's welfare.
They lay a rock with words on it
Above the hole, until forgotten, there to sit.
They prayed in vain, never cared
About the person's welfare.
Thoughts of vanity in their heads,
They brought roses to the dead.
