That was Yesturday

I walk by my playground,

Where once there were smiles,

Innocence all around.

Now it's covered in ash.

The memories of yesturday.

When no one worried about cash.

I stroll on the street,

On which I use to skip and sing.

It is now the home of unfortunate souls,

Who had everything just yesturday.

My old school still stands,

But no one will raise their hand,

And answer a question,

For they were given the name stupid.

I use to laugh and learn there.

But that was yesturday.

In the mirror I see myself,

A once happy child,

Wanting nothing more than to play,

With a toy,

Or her best friend it didn't matter.

Now I see a girl lost,

As everyone declares,

"Welcome to Adulthood".

I once wished to never see this day.

Now I wish things aren't the way they are.

Rotting and dying.

I want to see innocent faces in the park,

I don't want to see people sleeping on the street,

On which I use to skip and sing,

I want to see a child be told she/he is brilliant,

And not be afraid to answer a question.

I want to see the me I lost.

Maybe someday we will,

And maybe someday the sun will rise.
