Personal History Poem

Sitting anxiously in the inner tube,
you're waiting for my mark.
I've given you permission,
I've allowed you to start.

Always looking back to me
to make sure I'm still there.
As soon as I have fallen off
you're right there by my side.

I visited you in the hospital,
although now I can't remember,
the times when you couldn't walk, talk,
or eat your food the same.

But now you've learned to do all this,
now you've started anew.
All this time you never gave up,
you never doubted him.

I'm still in the inner tube,
but now I've come to see,
there's nothing to be worried about
because you'll always be there for me.
