What Music Taught Me

I used to live under my bed,
I lived life in the dark.
I never watched the sun rise,
I ignored the morning lark.

Afraid of the outside world,
Of human's and their sin.
And then one lonely fateful night,
A music note flew in.

I admit I caught the music note,
I kept him in a jar,
I put him in my pocket so
He couldn't travel far.

One day the jars loose lid unscrewed,
And caught up in the wind
he floated up to my right ear
And taught me how to sing.

He told me I had lots to learn,
That I had lots to see,
That if I listened to the world,
It would listen to me.

He told me that the world was full,
Of pretty little things.
Like post-it notes and pedal boats
And ant eaters and string.

Today I freed the music note,
Before he left he said,
That music notes and pedal boats
Don't belong under my bed.
