The Bridge was Taller than I

The air held wet tears, of angels forgotten fears
The stars made pictures in the night sky
I was strong, but had been for too long
But the bridge was taller than I

The rail so cold, the words spoken so old
Up at the world, I was so up high
Chants of love, but I was already above
And the bridge was taller than I

Barely able to stand, I was only one man
Who was in the same position as the rise
And the fall of many others, many sisters and brothers
But the bridge was taller than I

Moonlight swept, as the half the world slept
But the other half was at my feet
Begging and pleading, but the bridge was so misleading
As I took my first and last leap

Through the night-time air I fell, drifting down to Hell
Flashes of family and friends streaming from my eyes
Tears mixed with water, and the flames became hotter
As I saw that the bridge was taller than I

Into my weak lungs, the water won
As I drifted into the waves who went with the night
The eyes of many others, many sisters and brothers
Looked down from that bridge, taller than I
