Caged Bird

You think by now
I'd learn my lesson.

But I've been making
the same mistake.

And the pain is always twice as much;

The smiles are getting hard to fake.

Why can't I just forget the past,

And believe in what is now?

Why must I dwell in uncertainty,
The "what ifs" and the "how"?

My heart yearns for what can be.
But my mind is simply afraid.

Heartbreak is a high price for love
That I've already paid.

He carries two uneven pieces.
From the millions on the floor.

How many times can a heart get broken
Before it cannot break no more?

"A caged bird will never fly-
unless you set it free."

When will I understand
....
that caged bird is really me?
