Words Unspoken

Words.

We pull them from the air and weave them into something to say.
Then, we throw the words back into the atmosphere where they, too, can be used.

Do we take our words for granted, though?
Of course we do, because it’s unapparent that words are more powerful than they
seem.

With our words, we can lie.
We twist the words out, like wringing water from a towel,
And when we’re done, we douse it with anything but the truth.

With our words, we can trust.
The promises that we make are not taken for granted.
A promise kept is trust unacknowledged.

With our words, we can kill.
Fire erupts as words of hatred fly…
Of course, words cannot really kill, but they can kill our pride, our dignity, our egos.

The world has been told to always speak their mind.
From our history, the words that people have spoken can change everything.

But, it’s the words that we wish we could say that truly set us back:
Three simple words that mean so much,
A hope that you could be seen from behind your mask,
One sentence that allows you to speak your mind.

Why do words remain unspoken?
Are your guts telling you no?
Or is your conscience very much aware of what the possible consequences are?

Sometimes, it’s not about plucking up the courage to say what’s on your mind.
It is about how everyone else will react…

When the words escape from our lips.
