Escape

Screaming in the darkness,
There’s a voice that cries to me
It shouts and wails and ignores all
The pain it cannot see

Stumbling in the moonlight,
I run to break away
I try, escape but fall straight down
And burn in the light of day

Shouting underwater,
I drown in my self-hate
I swim to the murky surface but
I can see it’s far too late.

Screaming in the darkness,
I hide from your harsh word,
But when you’ve gone I open up
And speak all that I’ve heard.
