Hiding

Amongst these trees I hide.
The darkness of the canopy keeping me safe
from prying eyes.

In these woods, the shadows never creep,
though my memory haunts me still.

Animals cannot claw inside the way memories do.
They rip and tear in an unceasing attack.

At night I beg the shadows to swallow me whole.
Destroy these haunting thoughts before I go insane.

On the outside I put on a smile,
go on living my life.

On the inside, under the cover of these trees,
I hide..
