Make Believe

The large gray plush couch consumes my small frame
The cream verticals pulled, the dim room dark
I grab my fluffy blanket and cuddle with Teddy. The melodious music
Strikes up, this moment imprints an everlasting mark

My sharp claws scratch as I scamper laughing
Hakuna Matata with him across smooth Pride Rock
Pastel leaves and colors of the wind surround me
As John Smith searches for glistening gold near the eroded dock

I waltz past a delicate red velvet rose with a hairy beast
Swishing elegantly in my glimmering gold gown
I live in a stone cottage deep in the woods
With one that’s happy, one that sneezes, one that frowns

Your large rough hand consumes mine
Love sparks like life at our connection
I no longer see a meek painted face, but
A strong, courageous one in my reflection

A round plump pumpkin for a carriage
And delicate glass crafted for a slipper
I give up my harmonious voice
To trade in my scaly green flipper

I danced with you once upon a dream
Now I sleep until your gentle kiss
I transformed a puppet into a real boy
For upon a star he wished

An enchanted ancient lamp, a magic Arabian carpet.
I’m shown a whole new world from the wispy clouds above.
You went the distance from zero to hero,
But still I won’t say I’m in love.

I fly across the starry London sky, with a pinch of pixie dust
From a boy who fights pirates and refuses to mature.
There’s a raging gypsy hunt in the cobbled streets of glowing Paris,
But with the mysterious bell ringer of Notre Dame, I know I am secure

A starry night, and spaghetti for two can be quite romantic.
Who ever thought a lady like me, could fall in love with a tramp?
I celebrated a happy unbirthday, met a white rabbit and cheisher cat
I played croquet with a queen, who wanted my head in a clamp

Silence squeals loud
The credits march on.
The clips never end, playing
Night from night. Dawn to dawn.

I’ve grown since then, managing to love all the more
The stories of fantasy and pretend.
I believe in Prince Charming and Wishing on Stars
The magic will never end
