Ode to Fairytales

Once upon a time,
There was a boy who broke my heart.
But as most of you probably know,
That’s not usually how it starts.

It’s usually

With a look
With a touch
With an innocent grin,

He opened up my heart,
He let himself in.

This story is filled with desire,
A tale of friendship on fire.
A complete and utter shame
When it all burned
down
in
flames.

Falling
way
down
Into a state of turmoil,
My knight in shining armor
Was just a loser in tin foil.

Imagine -
if fairytales
didn’t end so happily.

Imagine -
how fairytales
would change in history:

Sleeping Beauty
would still be sleeping,
*
Cinderella
would still be sweeping.
*
Snow White
is still cleaning up
after seven little men,
*
And no one fell for the Beast;
He can’t be human again.

“No matter how your heart is grieving,
If you keep on believing,
The dreams that you wish will come true.”

So rewind the tape
and start it over again
Until what your heart really wants
Shows up in the end.

Take it from someone who knows –
A broken love story really blows.
But if it didn’t work out with him,
Then your story has yet to begin.

For me, along came a prince
Whose suit of armor will never rust.
He picked me up, brushed me off,
Repaired my broken trust.

He healed my torn heart
With life, love and laughter.
It’s about time my fairytale wrote me
My happily ever after.
