The Year the Foxes Came

The year the vines were in good health is when the foxes came.
The day I took a stand with my courage set aflame.
Though the gardens weren’t covered in roses.
The irises were sufficient
Until they were chewed into weeds and
Yew, when the foxes of disoblige were sent.
Set the hounds loose
And they come back with disease.
The clever canine
Is hard to please.
The thing with the red dog is
It feeds on your prosperity.
Get rich and headstrong, in time
You’ll see them laughing in hilarity.
My fields are dead.
Everything I built up is put to shame.
Should’ve planted poison
Before the foxes came.
