I See Right Through You

I don't understand why it's so hard to see
That little girl isn't so little anymore
Her shy smile and innocent eyes
Have all been washed away
She's a young woman now
Tormented by her insecurities
Am I the only one who notices?
Am I the only one who cares?
She's breaking underneath the surface
Eyes holding back tears
She hates herself, her image
She's placing too much pressure on her shoulders
And I know that she can't handle it all on her own
She's desperate for a hand
Someone to care
She pretends to be perfect
Places a false air of confidence about herself
But I know it's all a lie
I can see in her eyes that she's disgusted
Her eyes aren't big enough
Her smile not charming enough
Blinded by the image others have painted for her
Yearning for that perfection no one can achieve
Struggling and struggling
All in vain
Inside she's dying, waving her white flag
There's defeat in her heart, yet fire in her eyes
Why must others be so blind?
Her acting is poor, her mask cracked
Yet, they all smile and pretend to not notice
Content with ignoring any pain except their own
She has no one beside her, no one to lend a hand
Pretending she's strong enough to he on her own
Yet she shrinks into her shell any moment she's alone
Still they continue to act as if they have no idea
Even though she's screaming at them to finally see
She wouldn't care about perfection if she had someone to love
Someone to care about her genuinely, not out of courtesy
I care about you darling and I'm always here
Now drop your flag and take my hand
I'll never let you fall again
You're perfect just the way you are
A beautiful creation, so love yourself
People will come and go
But I will never leave you
You will fall and stumble along the way
Just remember to reach for my hand
You know what they say:
We were given two hands for a reason,
One for helping others
And one for helping ourselves
