The Sound of Silence

The sound of silence,
Like a thousand pounds of words left far too long unsaid
of the tears left unshed by the broken.
of cries gone unheard,
of whispering behind closed doors
and closed minds.

The sound of silence,
the overbearing shouts
from those who make not a single sound.
The weight of those you don't hear,
weaving through your mind, an anthem
of those without the benefit of words.

The sound of silence,
the absolute power of a hundred stifled voices
suffocated beneath the outbursts of hatred
the screams of anger, and prejudice
Until the shattered cries of the unheard are lost,
and the lack of a hundred weeping voices is louder than the incoherent shouts of the few.

The sound of silence,
that deafens the incomprehensible words of the angry
that cajoles the whispering ones from behind their doors and minds
that speaks with an infinite voice for those unheard.
The sound that cries out with the fear and pain of the tired and scared,
the hated. The sound that is louder in its nonexistent voice than the indistinguishable rage of a crowd.
