Eight Years

Remember when we were young

and the world was one big mystery?

You and I had no idea

of what we wanted to be.

Here we are, eight years later.

And you have it all figured out.

Everything is set in stone

And you say it without a hint of doubt.

We talk about our futures

and you want to join the army.

So you begin cutting classes

Claiming "all I need is a GED"

But you need to have a backup plan

in case the army doesn't fall through.

Not just that, there's something else.

I couldn't bear to lose you.

I know what you're thinking

that's a worst case scenario

but what if it really happens

what if you really go?

I don't know how I'd cope

if I found out you died in a war

Because all I'd have left are those memories

from eight years before.
