Easier than it Seems

Strip the pictures from the walls
Throw away those old rag dolls
Clean the sheets and fold them nice
Tape the box and put it to the side...
Write a letter or two
And seal it with a promise
That you will call them once in a while
And you won’t forget them all...
Look around
At the empty walls
The empty shelves
That once held memories of you
It all looks sad as it blankly stares back at you
This is the room you grew up in your whole life
And now it’s time to say goodbye
This is the house you’ve made a home
But soon you’ll be gone
And all the friends you’ve made that live in this small town
Will soon feel so far away...
This is what we call starting over
Or starting something new
Leaving behind all that you once knew
To become something you once only dreamed of
And will you cry,
As you take your first step out of the safety of your parents’ home?
And will you have second thoughts,
As you step into that small apartment with the boxes of your life...?
And will you wish you didn’t have to do this?
Yes...
But just remember...
That friend you’re moving in with, is going through the same thing
Your friend, that only reminder of the small town you came from.
So look around
At the place you will soon call home
At the life you will make your own
And don’t forget
You are not alone.
