Life's a Song

Life is like a hopeless song
I hear tinklings throughout the day
The chorus in the sunshine
And the sunset is the refrain

It gets stuck in my head
With its erratic random beat
Until those moments I lay in my bed
Trying to make all the notes so neat

I try to organize these melodies
Into a series that makes sense
But as I try to fit the notes in key
The sharps and flats become too dense

And sometimes those sharps may break my heart
But I’d rather that than a life gone flat
Because once the final refrain is played
There is no turning back

My song will fade or be cut short
And unfortunately yours will too
To find another to complete our duet
Is all we can hope to do
