Smile through the sunsets

I smiled through sunsets
Time seemed to slow down
for a second

I used to believe
there were worlds inside the waves
In every crest a village
perfectly crosshatched mountains and a blue green sky
A million souls but hopefully
one
just like me

Every thrust of the paddle
Every splash of glittering mirror
Bringing me closer to
My Sunshine
That shone just for me

But with every empty plunge
I ruined the world
Broke the even curves
Bubbled up the ripples
A million mountains crumbled
A twister swept away
the dreams and innocent victims
of yesterday

I smile through the sunsets
hoping to see my soul
in the placid depths

a frown echoes back
The clock keeps ticking.
