Sanctuary of Solitude

Between these walls
I must stay silent -
lips sealed tight,
shut with secrets.

No sound must I make
and just so I don't
I drown my ears
with screams -
what I imagine I could
if i were to make a sound
more than breathing
more than the silent tears
that course down my cheeks.

Darker I become,
shut myself inside
behind doors, undercovers
my cave, my
sanctuary of solitude -
the one place there is light.

For now,
these screams serve
as my voice from inside -
when no sound can escape.
