Slavery

The cracking of the whip,
The stinging on my back.
Why is there such thing as slavery?
That is a question I must ask.

I have so many scars,
I have so many pains.
Why is there such thing as slavery?
I think it's so insane.

I hear the yells and screams
That are the pains of many others.
Why is there such thing as slavery?
I hurts me, my sisters, and my brothers.

People's hearts are crushed,
As they take a husband from a wife.
Why is there such thing as slavery?
It ruins everbody's life.

They ship him to an auction,
For there he will be sold.
Why is there such thing as slavery?
So many horrible memories it will hold.

I have lost my husband,
While other relatives cry.
Why is there such thing as slavery?
I think I'd rather die.

I can see the moonlight,
I'm not going to stay.
Why is there such thing as slavery?
Tonight I'm going to run away.

I grab my baby,
And my little girl.
Why is there such thing as slavery?
It makes me want to hurl.

I go silently and quickly,
Hoping not to be found.
Why is there such thing as slavery?
Because of it I can't make a sound.

I see a house to the Underground Railroad,
We go quickly in.
Why is there such thing as slavery?
It should never have begin.

My children are shaking,
As slave catchers come in the house.
Why is there such thing as slavery?
That's why we need to be as quiet as a mouse.

The slave catchers go,
Long after we leave too.
Why is there such thing as slavery?
It hurts me through and through.

We all almost there,
We will finally reach our freedom.
Why is there such thing as slavery?
At least I'm reunited with my husband and my son.
