Fear

Let me tell you something about fear.
Fear is your minds worst adversary.
Fear can consume your life.
It’s manipulative and
Treacherous.
Fear is boundary less,
Respects no laws and,
shows no mercy.
It goes for your weakest spot.

It creeps into your mind.
One moment you’re feeling calm,
Self-assured, in control.
Then fear,
Disguised as doubt,
Shows it’s self.

Doubt meets disbelief
And together they team up on reason.
You become anxious.
Reason a poorly armed foot soldier,
Falls flat on its face.

You feel yourself weakening,
Wavering.
Your anxiety becomes dread.
Fear consumes your body.
Your lungs have flown away
Like a bird.
Your guts have slithered away
Like a snake.
Your tongue drops dead
Like a possum.
Your jaw begins to gallop on the spot.
Your ears go deaf.
Your muscles begin to shiver.
Your heart strains.
The rest of you
Falls apart.
Only your eyes work.

You make rash decisions.
You dismiss your last allies:
Hope and trust.
There- you’ve defeated yourself.
Fear has triumphed over you.

The matter is difficult to put into words.
For fear has set into your body.
Like gangrene.
You must fight hard
To expel it.

You must fight hard
Against the unreasonable foe .
Your fear becomes a hopeless darkness
That you must avoid.
You open yourself
To further attacks
Of fear
Because you never truly fought
The opponent who defeated you.
