I Did

Who'd have thought to believe those lies?

Hell concealed beneath pretty blue eyes.

Who'd have fallen for that promised forever?

I did.

Who'd have fallen for that golden smile,

For that touch that made a heart go wild,

Who'd have let him have his way?

I did.

Who'd have let him throw the dart,

And trample the love he demanded her heart.

Who'd have allowed him to win like that?

I did.

Youth isn't wasted on the young.

We fall too fast, and love too much.

We run too far, and play too hard.

We live regretless and deal all our cards.

And we pay dearly for the jumps that we make,

Generosity leads to the falls we must take.

We give all we have, we're lead on and dropped fast.

And the world doesn't care that it's mangled our past.

We give all we have and our innocence lost.

And then we are left to pay all the costs.

Who'd have gone to take back what they gave?

I'd like to say "I did", and I'd be satisfied.

But the heart we give isn't easily retrieved.

I tried.
