Your Glowing Green Eyes
We were young when I first saw you;
Your green eyes were glowing,
Like they always will do.
My heart beat so fast
When you walked
Right by me.
As we grew older,
I called you best friend.
You were the one I could talk to
With anything and always everything,
But sadly, even through all the joy,
I would still just be to you
The little girl next door.
Time went by and days turned into years.
You grew older, and far more handsome.
But those pretty green eyes still glowed,
That brown hair full and thick,
You were now not a small
Boy.
But a tall, lean man.
I too grew older
With my pretty new dress.
My brown eyes would sparkle,
And my long hair just as ever black.
No longer was I, that small
Little girl.
But a lovely young lady.
And yet, still to you
-For you saw past all the
Make-up and heels-
I was just that
Girl next door.
But finally, one day,
You spilled your heart to me.
‘I’ve liked you for too long.’
I smiled at the words;
You took my delicate fingers
In your soft warm hand.
We smiled and kissed
That made up for the years that had passed.
The days sailed by
With you by my side,
But the days weren’t long enough,
And as the warm summer breeze
Turned to the cold fall air,
You looked me in the eyes
And I could see the distance there.
‘Just for now’
You whispered so slowly,
And the green in your eyes
Were not glowing,
The sparkle in mine
Turned to glittering tears.
I pulled,
ever so slowly,
my hand
away from yours.
I forced a smile, and turned to walk away
Where I dashed to the fields,
And I clutched at my heart.
For it was worse
Then being
Stabbed
In the
Heart.
For I was
Stabbed not only there,
But in the back, where your knife,
Long and sharp,
Soared right on through,
Directly at my heart.
Your green eyes were glowing,
Like they always will do.
My heart beat so fast
When you walked
Right by me.
As we grew older,
I called you best friend.
