The Arkanes

In flight I…
My head is a mess
I feel like an orange cut in half.
The other half is missing.

Everyone has started to stare,
Like I’m bright yellow.
They see me falling apart.
But he can’t see.

God, it’s cold enough, he said.
She wouldn’t respond.
She is me. She makes me less important.

From here to the end, I’ll be she.

What’s wrong he asked her.
You wouldn’t understand she responded.
Try me babe, he knew her weakness,
She wished he didn’t.

Tears rolled from her eyes and
He wiped them away.
Let me go.

Is that what you want.
Just leave.

But she was first to go.
She walked away like she’d never look back.
Like she was never coming home again.

He yelled for her.

She ignored him.
She received a text.
Please tell me.

There’s room for both of us,
In the grave I’ve dug myself.

I don’t get it.

Told you.

What?

My head is a mess.

Another class project. We were given certain phrases that needed to be incorporated into the poem.

The title is the name of English band (The ArKanes) because when writing this poem, that was who I was listening to, and in their one song they say "my head is a mess."

This is semi about a break up I had, but semi fictional. I don't know.

Thanks for reading.
