Clandestine.

Their love was a love of the purest kind
Felt in the sparks when their fingers first entwined
And while Gerard was the young son of the trusted old maid
Frank was the young Prince; already his promise to marry had been made

Forbidden, their love was a secret.

It was a love of the highest degree, felt in a castle far, far away from the sea
“I was lost, but you found me,”
Frank would say, his eyes flashing green as the jade jewels that lined his mother’s throat
And Gerard returned his love in scrawled secret notes

Forbidden, it was a secret.

They met quietly in dark hallways cold as ice, and each other was all the could see
Even, it seems, the windows scared accusingly
Frank sneaks from his guarded bedchamber, the door screamed screech!
“We are clandestine,” Gerard whispers to his Frank, “But our love should be preached.”

Forbidden, they were a secret.

And the wedding day came, strewn with flowers and smiles
And when it was done, Gerard swept the aisles
His Frank was falsely smiling at his new wife dear
And as he saw his Gerard sweep, he longed to be near

Forbidden, lying in secret.

Gerard married simply, to a soft young maid
And for her forgiveness he often prayed
As her smiles were trusting, as he walked out the door
To return back to his Frank, as he had always done before

Forbidden, needing in secret.

To Gerard, Frank preached the troubles of his life; royalty strife, unloving wife
To Frank, Gerard preached the trials of his life; servitude strife, unknowing wife
And though neither could understand what made the other frown
They saved each other, through each and every breakdown

Forbidden, feeling in secret.

They were both young and they were both pale
And they were both beautiful and they were both male
But they love they had stayed as pure as yours
Even if conducted only behind closed doors

Forbidden, the truth is a secret.

Frank’s parents (King &queen) in the end opened the door to find them locked in embrace
And as he was dragged away, Gerard stole one last glance into Frank’s face
And the Prince was made to stand solider-straight as always
Until the red stings of the whip began to fade

Forbidden, they lost their secret.

Gerard’s wife watched him with uncomprehending eyes
As he made his way up the scaffold and (life flashing before his eyes) dropped his calm guise
Tears fell from his eyes; she turned away, but not before she heard Gerard say as the ax came through
“My love with him was clandestine, but still true - and I never wanted it to hurt you!”

Forbidden, there is no longer a secret.

Frank was alone without his Gerard
His heart, (beating against his wishes) was beaten and scarred
“I have never been without him,” He whispers into the night
“He was my world, my love, my light.”

Forbidden, all that is left now is pain felt in secret.
