Gatsby's Roof

I can nearly touch the sky
Adrenaline causing this high
As I sit upon the shingles
And the cold air causes tingles
Even as I stare down at the ground
No inkling of fear is found
The cawing of a crow
And the fireflies’ laser show
Never have I felt so calm
Like the world is in my palm
Never have I felt so alive
Upon this feeling I thrive
The night is drawing near
The distance no longer clear
A green light in the distance
My mind uses resistance
Once again you’re on my mind
In the silent peace I find
The bright light shines green
And you’re nowhere to be seen
So the light only grows brighter
And I long to hold you tighter
I beckon to the ghost
Of the one I miss the most
All over a green hue
And I’m still missing you
I awake slowly on my bed
Crawl to the roof to clear my head
Was it all just a dream?
That emerald green beam?
Or was that just yesterday?
And the remembrance today
And later on tonight
I am sure to see the light
In the light I see your eyes
This is the light’s surprise
The one you’ve loved all along?
Or the one you consider strong?
Prefer the new to the old?
Or the warmth to the cold?
I wait for all of time
Wasting it is no crime
And the green light is my proof
That you’re on my mind on my roof
