Tonight I Am Free To Write The Saddest Lines

Tonight I am free to write the saddest lines.

Because I know the next day will be better.

It always goes down hill even if the climb up this hill will kill me.

I hope it does.

Because the heartbreak you give me would be worse.

I’m going to live in the most horrible lives.

So that mine will look like the gods spared me.

And I’ll put one foot in front of the other so the world can see and wish they could follow

But they know I’ll cover the tracks before they can even get on my yellow bricked road.

You’ll get everything you wanted.

Won’t get anything I needed.

But I won’t complain.

The lessons you'll teach me will only make me stronger.

Make those stepping stones of mine solid and they’ll hold me.

I won’t need you there.

I’ll be able to roll over in bed and realize the empty spot beside me is more then a loss

It’s a win.

A win I have been so desperately wanting I cling to it with bound arms refusing to let go.

Just so I could wake up and say I don’t need you.

I never did.

So I’ll be able to write the happiest lines tomorrow.

Knowing that you’ll be the one in the coffee shop sitting watching the world brush past you.

Forgetting you.

Like I will.
