Darkness

I used to be afraid of the dark,
of what could be hidden in it
the demons that were there
but when I grew up,

I began to realize that
it's not what's in the dark
that we should be afraid of
but rather what is outside it

I should have been afraid
of becoming close to people
because in the end

everyone leaves,
everything changes,
no one remains,
and nothing is safe

The darkness is a shelter,
a hidden sanctuary
where tears can fall
and sleep can overcome
the pain of everything
where you don't
have to face anyone
or reveal anything
