Human

I will never come to understand the
Frailties of this life. Silence pierces
Through the painful tension. My ears, they bleed
Volumes of tears from the mother’s faint wail.
I feel nothing but guilt and cold numbness,
And as I proceed forward their looks kill.
I could pass the blame and find a scapegoat,
But that would only drag me deeper down,
Way past the fiery confines of hell.
And so I sit and pay my respects to
A boy that I destroyed. I should have kept
Him from driving, inebriated as
He had been. The dirt and filth I feel won’t
Alleviate; but I’m only human.
