In The Long Run

We smile each day to bring other joy
But does it bring joy to us?
Why do we do things that don't bring joy to ourselves
But only to others?

Does it bring joy to us to see everyone happy
Or just when one person is happy?

As we walk with that one person
We are happy
And yet we know that deep down
They're going to hurt us

Does it bring us sadness to see everyone crying
Or just when one person is sad?

As we strive for the best
And only the best
What happens when we don't achieve that goal?

As we love each other
When we are loved
Does that help us
In the long run?
