Set Fire to the Sky

The Phoenix breaks the chains of youth,
A fiery passion’s leaf,
Whispering softly, the voice of truth,
But he is full of grief.
Just old enough to leave the nest,
He spreads his wings to fly,
His first and final pivotal test,
He’s nervous, but he’ll try.
Could never know that day his wings,
Would set fire to the sky,
Those below, they laugh, they sing,
But he can’t help but cry.
He flies way up to touch the moon,
But he can’t get that high,
For those who try too much too soon,
Will fall out of the sky.
He hits the ground and cracks his wings,
But he tells himself “Once more”,
He won’t succumb to trivial things,
He knows someday he’ll soar.
