Infinity (We Fell down the Rabbit Hole)

infinity
you said—forever,
i said—never.
we said yes,
we would,
but we didn’t,
did we?

there’s a story behind all of these skeletons,
dancing in the back of your closet.
wearing your childhood clothes,
because you didn’t want them.
this closet is filled with Lost things,
Lost worlds,
Lost girls,
Lost boys,
and all sorts of things
your peter pan complex
wouldn’t let you throw away.

clouds of sadness in your bath
raindrops of red
shower washes it all away,
washes you out of my hair,
once down the drain you’re out of mind.
drowning one step
at a time.

machine washable hearts
with directions to put on the delicate cycle
you put it on express
because you need it back on your sleeve as soon as possible.
we all fell down the rabbit hole.
