Before Your Life Dies

Why are looks
held in the highest regard?
The beautiful worshiped,
the inadequate marred

People are shallow,
set standards too high
People are harsh,
not worth a tear you could cry

So why do we live
like what they say matters?
Don't you see how much
it bruises and tatters?

Don't let them pull you
into conformity with them
Don't place yourself with pebbles
when you, my dear, are a gem

If you isn't good enough
for their shameful selves to love
Then will they cast themselves away
when they age and beauty they have nothing of?

Skin will fall short,
good looks will someday end
One day heart will be
all we'll have, my friend

So don't waste your life
on your image in their eyes
And just live your life
before your life dies
