Puppy Love-Sestina

From the moment he saw that angelic face
He knew she had robbed him of his heart
Just the mere sight of her took his breath away
Her flowing honey hair, her long legs, her eyes
Two deep pools of mystery waiting to be unraveled. His mind
Was a blur, preoccupied with her stunning beauty, wanting no other.

Feeling uncomfortable from his unwavering stare, she longed to be any other
Place. He seemed nice, but his was not the faraway face
She saw clearly, nestled in the corner of her pristine mind
Nor felt in the beating of her hopeless romantic heart
When her starburst hazel eyes
Fluttered shut each night and her dreams carried her away

He finds his courage buried deep in his pocket where it has been stowed away,
Anxiously holding his breath waiting for her to spew anything other
Than embarrassing rejection. Kindness overpowers her uncertain eyes
As he says he’ll pick her up on Saturday, a lopsided smile upon his face.
Like a hummingbirds wings his heart
Flutters, as he begins to plan the faultless date in his mind

She said yes to him even though he wasn’t what she had in mind.
He drives with her on a dirt road, taking her far, far away
To a simple, beautiful place that manages to capture her heart.
The sun bright, a blanket upon the grass; She couldn’t image the day any other
Way. She begins to feel her fantasies come true when she looks into his face.
Speechless love hovers around them like the fireflies, the bright stars twinkle above them like his eyes

He could not stand to look at her blotchy red face and tearful eyes
While his own brimmed with tears. Hazy with confusion, his mind
Was a blur. He could not stand up to his own parents, let alone face
Hers. But he won’t let it happen. The forces of the world could not keep him away
From her. He couldn’t let her be taken away; they completed each other.
The weeks long, separated by force, but connected by the heart

The long, lonely nights drudge on. Her heart
Aches put her to sleep each night. Sad and drained, the usual happiness is void in her eyes.
Her head hurts with the thought of her parents demanding her see someone other
Than that ‘lovesick boy’. But she cannot get him out of her mind.
‘If only you knew him’ she pleads away,
And thinks she sees a kind change in her parents face

Face to face again at last, he sweeps her off her feet in a twirl, joy glistening in their eyes
Heart racing, he leans into her against the tree, their lips brushing, not a doubt in his mind
Away from the cold world he takes her, whispering dreams and sweet things, showing her a love like no other.
