The Gallows

Welcome to the gallows
where condemned men make their final cries
their pool of blood never shallows
and they tell no lies

They hang there limply
after a minute or two
they went down so simply
but to their word, they stayed true

But if you want to hear the truth
the entire barbaric story
You'd have to be a great sleuth
but, be warned, it's quite gory

If you haven't learned by now
dead men tell no tales
they can't get up to make their final bow
they can't lead you through their last trails

So let them rest
they've been through enough
they've passed their final test
but have not made it through the rough

For death is just another journey
far from over, yet almost there
whether from the gallows or the gurney
or from yet another dare
