In Heaven's Arms

He fights back tears, holding them in,
Trying to hold back the pain that came back, again.
It is kind of the same, but this time it’s worse,
How can His will seem so much like a curse?
His chest is tight, it’s just how he feels,
Surviving a pain that is just so… real.
So he sits alone in his rocking chair,
Fighting a battle with nobody there.
No longer caring, he feels no love,
Not even from He who comes from above.
His life his gone, his companion no more,
She left him not too long before.
So he just sits in pain, a puzzle book in hand,
His breathing gets so bad that he can barely stand.
He wheezes and coughs, and it won’t go away,
It’s seems that this sickness has come home to stay.
The tightness in his chest, constricting his lungs,
Tightening like a noose which he is hung.
He’s so dizzy from air-loss, he staggers about,
Grasping for the air he is almost without.
He knows what he has, but still doesn’t go,
To the doctor like we wish he would, but no!
His wife had this thing, now he has it too,
The memories fresh, the pain just too new.
I’m sorry to say this, but he wishes to die,
The thought of that alone forces me to cry.
This is my grandfather who’s in so much pain,
No able to care for himself makes him insane.
I know he won’t last much longer, it’s so very near,
Is it too selfish of me to wish he’d stay here?
I wish he could stay, I know it’s not meant to be,
I wish his pain would go away, don’t worry about me.
So how do you wish someone would go, but stay?
It’s too complicated for words even to say.
So this is my grandfather, and I’m sure he’s about to die,
I just wish that he could hold me as I cry…
I won’t cry in front of him, though,
It’s just something I can’t bare to show.
So this is my grandfather I love so very much,
The one who is close enough for Him to touch.
So, this is a prayer for my Pawpaw, my buddy, my friend,
For God to hold him to the very end.
May you find piece in God and Heaven’s arms,
Where nothing will ever again cause you any harm.

Please pray for my grandfather. He needs all the prayers he can get, even if it is total strangers.
