One of the Guys

She always wanted to be one of the guys
She wanted to know what their conversations were like
And be a part of their everyday life
The only problem was she was a girl.

She grew up with her brothers, not a sister in sight
So don’t go blaming her if she’s not lady-like
Because she tried so hard just to be one of the guys
Even if she was only a girl.

Pink just wasn’t her style
Make-up could wait a little while
All she wanted
Was to be included in their fun

A childhood dream
So silly it may seem
To be one of the guys
So simple yet so right
For a lonely soul to want
And all it really takes is time
To build relationships that strong

Years later, the child grew into a beautiful flower
And wrote a page in her life story when she moved out
After that things changed drastically
As she found herself included in their stories

She sips on her rum
And listens to tunes in the garage
She finds out that all along she’s been loved
And she’s now one of the guys.

They missed her more when she wasn’t around
Where they couldn’t protect her every day
And they now accept her as more than their sister
But one of their friends as well

That childhood dream
Not so silly now it seems
To be one of the guys
So simple and so right
For a lonely soul to want
And all it took was time
To build a relationship this strong

And she realizes freedom is nothing without her family
