A Lovely Contradiction

Grey clouds darken the sky, giving it a midnight feel.
Rolls of thunder echo through the park,
Louder and angrier, each time it calls.
Lightening blasts through the sky,
Splitting it for a moment.

In that park below, two silhouettes can be seen.
Most people would call them stupid,
Ignoring nature’s signs, of a dangerous storm fast approaching.

The girl leans against the other,
Staring at the chain fence covered in green.
She relaxes, breathing gently,
The wind starts to pick up.

The boy, with unruly black hair, sits close to her, his chin resting on her shoulder.
His fingers intertwined with hers.
The girl’s eyes drift shut,
Taking in that moment.

The wind picks up even more,
Causing the rusty swing, to creak to life.
The sky darkens even more.

The boy smiles,
Gently pressing his lips against her exposed cheek.
As he kisses her,
A chill runs down her spine,
Butterflies explode in her stomach.
She stares straight ahead,
Biting her pink bottom lip,
Her face warming on its own.
The boy sighs, wrapping her in his arms.

The clouds rumble one last time,
Before letting their water go.
The water flows to the ground,
Quickly soaking the Earth.

The girl looks up at the sky,
The cold liquid, causes her hair to stick to her face.
She gets up, quickly running away.
The boy stares for a moment, at where she had once been.
He quickly stands up, dashing after her.

He finally catches up to her, for a moment he is still.
He watches her twirl in the rain.
She laughs, as the rain soaks her even more.

He slowly goes up to her,
Tenderly wrapping her in her arms.
She lifts her head up,
Dark strands, of curling hair cling to her face.

He smiles down at the girl in his arms.
His heart beats faster as he leans down.
His dark nose, gently touches her pale one.
She looks at him.
His nose moves away from hers,
His lips gently touch hers.

That moment seems to freeze,
As each tries to take everything in.
The freezing rain touching each of their faces.
She shivers in his grasp,
As his warm lips gently touch hers.

In that moment, it all seems…
Honest,
And pure.
A lovely contradiction.
